If you drove around Norfolk on Friday, you probably met water. Heavy rain from a cold front flooded several streets, stranded cars and sent some people through waist-high water. The Monticello Avenue and West 21st Street underpass was completely submerged and blocked off. Other trouble spots included the Princess Anne and Colonial Avenue intersection and Virginia Beach Boulevard and Park Avenue in Ghent.
- Expected rain: one to two inches, possibly more than three
- Severe weather threat: level 1 of 5, low risk
- Friday night: little to no rainfall expected after 10 p.m.
The National Weather Service had a flash flood warning out for Norfolk and three neighboring cities, plus a flood watch for parts of Hampton Roads. Norfolk resident James Bryant said he lost a car in August after getting caught in high water. Saturday should be partly sunny, with a high near 61 and a low around 39.
