If you stayed up for the school sales tax vote, Norfolk's answer wasn't in yet. As of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, results were not complete for Norfolk or Newport News, WHRO reported. Norfolk's ballot also had City Council and School Board races.
- City Council: five candidates, two seats, two incumbents running
- School Board: nine candidates, four seats, three incumbents running
- Tax applies to clothing and restaurant purchases, not groceries
The tax passed in Middlesex County, which the state estimates could generate about $1.5 million annually. It failed in Isle of Wight, Mathews and York counties and Portsmouth.
47Virginia jurisdictions asked voters to approve the 1% school sales tax
In June, the General Assembly expanded the tax statewide, with voter approval.
