If you tried calling a Norfolk school Thursday morning, you weren't alone. Internet and phone service went out at all Norfolk Public Schools facilities and was back by 9:42 a.m., according to a district news release. Spectrum's preliminary information points to work at an off-site data center that affected its equipment outside the district's network.

Norfolk schools lost internet and phone service from about 8:23 to 9:42 a.m.

The disruption also affected municipal services for the City of Norfolk and several local businesses. On Election Day, the city's general registrar said election workers couldn't get websites to load, video calls dropped and they got kicked out of state-approved databases, so staff activated an emergency response plan.
