ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A coalition of scientists and conservation groups released the U.S. State of the Birds report on March 20th that showed Virginia birds declined in line with national trends, with coastal shorebirds suffering losses from rising sea levels and Eastern forest birds losing habitat from modern silvicultural practices. The report noted over three billion birds have been lost since 1970 and a 43% rebound in the American oystercatcher (achieved by managing predators on barrier islands) as a rare positive outcome.
