Impact VA held its seventeenth Thanksgiving food giveaway at the former Military Circle Mall Saturday—serving 3,000 families and recruiting dozens of volunteers with support from sponsors including Boyd Gaming, the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia, and Sentara Health Care.

Saturday night, downtown Norfolk hosted the 39th Grand Illumination Parade — one of the city’s largest holiday traditions — as an estimated 70,000 people from neighborhoods like Ghent and Campostella gathered along decorated streets to watch festive floats, dance groups and school marching bands. City crews spent months preparing for the event — which ended with Santa Claus drawing cheers from the crowd — ensuring the parade shone with holiday spirit.

At the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, a new red river hog named Hampton—12 years old—arrived from another accredited facility and is getting used to his home on the African Safari Trail; he will soon join female hogs Remi and Tiki as companion animals per the Species Survival Plans.
