ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Early Saturday morning, over 70 residents and two staff members were evacuated from Golden Years Assisted Living in Hampton after a fire, and two people were taken to Sentara Careplex Hospital for non-fire-related injuries. 3 WTKR
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Non-profit Virginia Oyster Trail launched a redesigned website with improved features including a new member directory, interactive trail map & downloadable itineraries. Bruce Vogt said the update will help oyster lovers and coastal communities. WAVY
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A new AAA Tidewater report showed gas prices remained steady as drivers paid $3.07 per gallon across the nation while Hampton Roads saw prices drop to $2.91—both lower than last month and last year. The report suggested prices could continue to fall as fewer road trips were taken. WAVY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Norfolk Public Schools' preschool programs earned ratings of Meeting or Exceeding Expectations from the Virginia Department of Education in the VQB5 Quality Profiles program. Granby Elementary and Chesterfield Academy earned Exceeds Expectations (a distinction held by only four schools statewide) while St. Helena Elementary earned Meets Expectations (officials noted strong improvement). - ➤ At the Brock Environmental Center, Lynnhaven River Now held a Wetland Celebration to begin restoring the marshland that once covered Pleasure House Point—Chesapeake Bay Foundation helped organize the event and provided educational details about local species including the Ornate Diamond Terrapin and Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars. 3 WTKR

- ➤ At 10 a.m. on Oct. 25, Chesapeake Health Department hosted its annual rabies vaccine clinic where hundreds of pet owners lined up to vaccinate their pets for $10 on a first-come basis+staff worked quickly to give vaccines that help stop rabies from spreading. WHRO
