- ➤ Keep Norfolk Beautiful and Rashida Bess of Alodeuri will host the first Live Green upcycling workshop on October 27 at the Ernie Morgan Center — 3500-A Granby St. Participants will learn to turn T-shirt fabric into jewelry and must register to attend. City of Norfolk
- ➤ Jackson-Feild Behavioral Health Services, which began during an 1855 yellow fever epidemic, will mark its 170-year history tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with a worship service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church — a reminder of its enduring mission — honoring its work in housing and caring for troubled youth in Norfolk. - ➤ WAVY 10 is partnering with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore for its Feeding Hampton Roads food drive to support families facing growing food insecurity amid the government shutdown. - ➤ Nauticus is preparing for its largest Winterfest on the Wisconsin where starting Friday, November 14, visitors in Norfolk will enjoy a new riverfront light trail that is half a mile long and a 30,000 square foot indoor Kingdom of the Snow Queen featuring a talking polar bear, big nutcrackers, a wise old owl and the Snow Queen. The holiday event will also showcase Battleship Wisconsin adorned with more than 2 million lights—boosting the festive atmosphere. 3 WTKR

- ➤ Old Dominion University will add a spring nursing admission cycle for the first time in over 30 years to help meet local health care needs. The new spring class will begin in January with 48 students and is expected to boost enrollment nearly 60% by 2027 — the program retains the same curriculum as the fall group while four new faculty are hired. - ➤ A Norfolk father said his 6-year-old autistic daughter wandered from Crossroads School Tuesday morning after a call alerted him at 12:30 p.m. and he later found her a few blocks away with a stranger and one police officer—he said school staff only learned of her absence after classmates informed them and now he is considering withdrawing her to improve safety. - ➤ Norfolk State University’s Thurgood Marshall Pre-Law Club was reactivated last fall after being inactive since 2015—student leaders and faculty helped revive the group, which now has about 20 active members who attend legal literacy workshops and discussions on civic engagement.
