  • One year after Hurricane Helene hit parts of Virginia and North Carolina, Mercy Chefs has kept making 7,000 to 8,000 meals each week for survivors rebuilding their homes. The group also held a special event in Black Mountain—featuring hot meals, live shows, and giveaways—to help lift community spirits.  3 WTKR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Naval Safety Command reported on September 25 that 2025 now has the highest number of motorcycle fatalities since 2008—29 Sailors and 15 Marines died—and urged commands to adopt safety measures such as group rides to protect 18 to 26-year-old male riders amid recent crashes.  WAVY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Carnival Sunshine has changed its itinerary for today's cruise because tropical weather in the Atlantic forced a shift from its planned six-day route from Norfolk to Celebration Key, Nassau and Bimini. The ship will now stop overnight in Saint John, New Brunswick on Tuesday and Wednesday and will return to Norfolk on Oct. 4—officials say.  WAVY

CULTURE NEWS

  • After flooding caused cancellations on Saturday, the Neptune Festival will run today as scheduled in Virginia Beach with live music and family activities. Buckshot Duo, Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos, Tiki Bar Band, and Skip Castro Band will perform on set times—ensuring the event continues with fun and community spirit.  13 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 250 men attended the fourth annual Prostate Cancer and Men's Health Awareness Fair on Saturday morning—receiving physical exams and blood tests to check for prostate cancer—while a mobile mammography van served women and organizers from Sentara Health and Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute urged early screening during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.  13 News Now
