- ➤ The 20th annual CaribFest will take place at Town Point Park from Sept. 26-27. The festival will start tomorrow with a block party from 5-10 p.m.—featuring Caribbean food, music and live acts—and continue Saturday with live performances, a Parade of Bands at noon and boat rides for guests 21 and older. - ➤ Major school systems including Norfolk are considering closing under-enrolled schools as declining enrollment and shrinking budgets force officials to reassess operations—policy makers are reviewing how shifts in demographics and reduced federal funds will affect public education. 13 News Now
- ➤ Norfolk students from Sail Nauticus Academy launched their student-built miniboat MB Forever Sea from Carnival Sunshine on September 14 during a six-day cruise that took it halfway between Norfolk and Bermuda—collecting data on weather, location, and temperature. They toured Carnival Sunshine on September 20 and continue to track the miniboat’s journey online as part of their hands-on STEM learning. 13 News Now

- ➤ The Norfolk Police Department is recruiting highly motivated professionals to join their team and serve the community—this strategic hiring effort aims to strengthen public safety. The department said the process will offer new career opportunities and ensure top-quality service. City of Norfolk
- ➤ Since May, three referendum committees in Virginia Beach raised nearly $600,000 to either support changing the city’s voting rules from a 7-3-1 system to a 10-1 system or to keep the current method. The non-binding referendum will appear on the November ballot and may settle years of debate on how council and school board members are elected — with cash from local real estate and hospitality groups and in-kind support from outside donors. - ➤ Residents at Pelham Place in Ghent are worried about the over $9 million sale—which transferred management to Edgewater Property Group on Sept. 19—as renovation plans could lead to higher rents. - ➤ Norfolk State women’s tennis team collected wins in singles and doubles play at the Bedford Cup held at the University of Maryland from Sept. 19 to 21 — key players Ines Sabadie, Yuliya Yurkova, and Angelina Maniawska led the effort. - ➤ After a 31-28 loss to Sacred Heart last week, Norfolk State will travel to Staten Island to face Wagner this Saturday as the team seeks its second win. Coach Michael Vick said the game is a must-win—especially after the Spartans' lone overtime victory over Virginia State—as they try to improve their season record. WAVY
