Norfolk City Council delayed a vote on a proposed short-term rental tax—charging $3 per bedroom per night on Airbnb bookings—and will revisit the issue at a future meeting after a required public hearing, with some rental owners urging a quick decision.

Tuesday night, the Norfolk City Commission voted at 6:00 p.m. to raise the short-term rental tax from three percent per guest night to three percent per bedroom per night — property owners argued the change was unfair and would drive up costs.

The additional revenue, projected at about 116 thousand dollars, was planned to fund beach sand replenishing at the Coastal Character Division.
