  • Nearly a dozen ODU Turning Point USA members gathered on campus this week to pray and reflect on the violent death of founder Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot in Utah on Wednesday. The group said they will continue hosting memorial events and condemned those who mocked their loss—emphasizing a commitment to keep his message alive.  WAVY
  • On Friday, Virginia Beach firefighters and emergency service workers honored retired firefighter Charles Gurley for his 39 years of work—he received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his 4,000 volunteer hours. Friends, family, and fire leaders gathered to celebrate his long service to local public safety.  WAVY

  • Target is launching its annual car seat trade-in event where parents can exchange expired seats for a 20% discount on new child gear—customers must drop off their car seats at designated boxes from Sept.21 through Oct.4. The discount is available to Target Circle members—who earn an extra bonus by scanning signs near drop boxes before Oct.18.  WAVY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials announced that Norfolk International Airport will add a larger observation area that offers more parking spots—along with a children’s play area, food truck pad, and extra restrooms. The work will start early 2026 and is expected to finish by Fall 2027.  WAVY
