GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Norfolk school board member confirmed that a plan to consolidate and close nine public schools has been chosen and will be voted on Wednesday, Sept. 17—The plan details closing Tarrallton, Norview, Granby, and PB Young Elementary schools, shifting programs from SECEP to Chesterfield, from Norfolk Technical Center and Madison at Easton to Lake Taylor High, and from Willoughby and Berkley Early Childhood Centers to Oceanair and St. Helena Elementary, with Lindenwood to be repurposed as a professional development center and Ghent School possibly affected by redistricting. The Board will begin closing one or two schools per year from 2027 to 2034. 3 WTKR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sentara Health said it missed the mark on its early COVID‑19 vaccine guidance due to changes in FDA rules that left providers with unclear instructions—new guidance now allows providers to use clinical judgment for prescriptions while patients meeting FDA criteria can receive vaccines at retail pharmacies, and updated protocols will be refined after the CDC ACIP meeting Sept. 18‑19.
