On Saturday morning at 6:23 a.m.—coast guard, the Virginia Port Authority, and fire crews responded to a boat fire in the 400 block of Water St near the Renaissance Portsmouth-Norfolk Waterfront Hotel, and a dog was rescued from the cabin while the boat was found empty.

A house fire on Norcova Avenue around 2:17 a.m. Saturday left 13 people homeless and investigators noted that smoke detectors did not sound because most of the blaze burned outside — the American Red Cross is helping eight adults, five children and a dog.

Portsmouth police said one person died and three were injured in a shooting at the Dahlia—Manly Streets intersection on Saturday morning, and the investigation remains active.
