An Eastville police officer—Jerry Keith Brady Jr.—was charged with 12 counts of wire fraud, 2 counts of money laundering and criminal forfeiture on Aug.
21 after he tricked people into sending him nearly $820k between November 2020 and October 2024, and an arrest warrant has been requested.
A reported weapon sighting near Maury High School on Tuesday led to a brief lockdown and police maintained a presence on Wednesday — Norfolk police said.
Norfolk City Council approved a plan on Tuesday night to build a new Maury High School with over $200 million allocated — excluding stadium proposals — while the school board was scheduled to vote on the final green light on Wednesday night; if approved, the school will open in July for the 2028-29 school year.
Inez Davenport Jones turned 100 and celebrated at Aberdeen Barn on August 19 in Virginia Beach while she recalled leading a secret student protest in 1951 at Moton High that helped end school segregation.
She later taught in Norfolk Public Schools and said the protest made news and led to the Brown v. Board decision — a key moment in history.
The Virginia Public Safety Foundation will host the 11th annual Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial Service at 2 p.m. Sept.
