- ➤ Oasis Social Ministry in Portsmouth ended August on a positive note after donations rebounded from a 67% drop to a 12% rise with local groups contributing $5,000 each. The ministry warned that cuts to SNAP benefits in December and January may force more people to rely on its food pantry — support continues to help cover rising costs like fuel and fresh produce. - ➤ Police said 18-year-old Malik H. Jenkins lost control of his motorcycle and hit a utility pole on the 3600 block of Granby Street on August 24th — he died later at the hospital from his injuries. City of Norfolk
