- ➤ Virginia Beach City Council approved a conditional rezoning that lets the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore build a 103,000-square-foot $25 million facility on 24 acres along Dam Neck Road. The charity will move into the new warehouse in two to three years to expand its capacity to store donations + serve local needs while still keeping its Norfolk presence. WHRO

- ➤ Rescuers from Suffolk and Newport News saved an adult and a dog from a 30‑foot Catalac catamaran drifting toward the shoreline on the James River yesterday—after the boat lost power as its operator tried to find safe harbor from Hurricane Erin, with crews arriving at 9:28 a.m. and finishing by 11:45 a.m. WAVY

- ➤ Norfolk Police asked for public help identifying a suspect who invaded a home on the 1100 block of Midland Street on August 5th around 12:20 p.m. when he entered the residence with a weapon, took items, and urged anyone with information to call the Norfolk Crime Line. City of Norfolk
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ VDOT crews will open a new left-turn lane on the I-264 west off-ramp to Ballentine Boulevard on Saturday, Aug. 23, weather permitting, to complete the ramp's final configuration. Motorists may experience brief stoppages on Ballentine Boulevard and adjacent ramps while new traffic signals and a signal pole mast arm are installed—police will flag drivers between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. City of Norfolk
- ➤ High winds and flooding stopped the Elizabeth River Ferry service on August 21; officials set up shuttle buses to connect Norfolk and Portsmouth—riders can board at Waterside District and local ferry docks. WAVY
- ➤ Jefferson Lab director Jens Dilling said he is hopeful about getting more funding for the Newport News lab next year after U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Gov. Glenn Youngkin visited on August 21.
