ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to a house fire on Adele Drive at 3:35 a.m. Friday—firefighters contained the blaze to one room and one person was displaced while the cause remains under investigation.  13 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • David Leroy Carver Jr., 47, caused trouble on a Breeze Airways flight from Norfolk to Los Angeles by making rude, racially hurtful comments, throwing chewing tobacco, and hitting a flight attendant—he was charged in Grand Junction on Thursday and investigators from the FBI and local police are still looking into the incident.  WAVY
  • Cameron Bertrand—a community activist and gun violence survivor—said he will sue Norfolk Police after his court hearing on Friday dropped the obstruction charge linked to his wrongful detention during a June 21 Juneteenth event near 700 Lincoln Street.  WAVY

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cousinz Festival will take place on August 30 at Norfolk Scope with live music from Jeezy, T-Pain and Lil' Kim. Organizers stated the event will also feature live DJs and a food truck experience — adding extra flavor to the celebration.  City of Norfolk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Runway 14/32 at Norfolk International Airport permanently closed Friday — it was used by less than 1% of air traffic due to its short length. Airport officials say the move will boost the $1 billion modernization project by removing the runway pavement in the coming month and realigning Robin Hood Road for better access.  WAVY

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Poquoson Islanders football team, led by Head Coach Elliott Duty in his 20th season, finished 12-2 last year and lost in the state semifinals. They will start their season on 8/29 at York—relying on returning players like Carter Jones and Cody Little to power a competitive schedule.  WAVY
  • Brooke Johnson became the first woman to skateboard across America and finished her 118-day journey on Friday at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach in tribute to her late stepdad. She raised money for spinal cord research on her trip—she collects donations on social media.  WAVY
