Portsmouth Alignment reopened Monday after a driver crashed into the building in February, shutting it down for five months due to permit delays (owner Danny Crawford said repairs took longer than expected and the appointment book is already filling up).

Volunteers packed 1,400 backpacks on Tuesday at CMA CGM’s headquarters in Norfolk with school supplies, hygiene products and food for students in need.

Some will be turned over to the Salvation Army and Reset, Inc for distribution at a Norfolk Public Schools event Saturday and a following weekend.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality report warns that regional groundwater may become unsustainable in five to 10 years, spurred by high withdrawals from data centers + paper mills and saltwater intrusion linked to climate change.

Lawmakers are calling for a special session to address this threat.

Norfolk health officials warn residents that Tuesday's floodwater may carry harmful bacteria & chemicals from sewage, vehicle pollutants, and yard waste that can cause illness even through minor cuts.

They advise washing off immediately and watching for gastrointestinal symptoms in the days after exposure.
