Chesapeake opened the Historical Village at Dismal Swamp on July 30.
The free site features a visitor center with an Underground Railroad exhibit, a maroon communities display and renovated Cornland School, and it will add an outdoor classroom in the fall; it remains open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Virginia senators visited the Norfolk-based USS Gerald R.
Ford at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Friday — they reviewed maintenance updates that aim to complete repairs in six months so the carrier can return by Feb. 2027.
