  • A motorcyclist sustained critical injuries in a crash with a vehicle on Virginia Beach Blvd around 12:55 p.m. Saturday — both drivers were taken to the hospital and the road was closed between Rosemont Rd and Lynn Shores Dr.  WAVY
  • AAA Tidewater warns that high summer traffic and extreme heat are contributing to more car accidents in Hampton Roads—drivers should avoid phone distractions and stay alert amid rising risks from construction zones, new drivers, and motorcyclists. The agency advises everyone to prepare for the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer by hydrating and remaining patient on busy roads.  13 News Now

  • On July 26 at 5:01 a.m., a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral and carried 28 Starlink satellites into orbit—residents in Hampton Roads captured the bright streak on video. The mission pushed this year's launch count past 8,000, marking a record-setting milestone for satellite deployments.  3 WTKR
  • On Friday morning, Rivers Casino in Portsmouth announced that Norfolk-based S.B. Ballard Construction Company was chosen as the general contractor for The Landing Hotel adjacent to the casino—this $65 million upscale project will begin construction this summer and is expected to be completed by early 2027.  WAVY

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday morning, 14 locked chairs were stolen from Downtown Norfolk Community Garden—suspects also attempted to remove anchored tables—and local partners are offering a $500 reward for any evidence leading to an arrest.  WAVY

  • Darryl Tapp, a Chesapeake native and former NFL player, is guiding the Commanders' defensive line in his second season as he blends veteran talent with young players.   • Thousands of fans cheered at Harbor Park during the Banana Ball series from Thursday through Saturday—despite temperatures above 90 degrees, the sold-out crowd still braved the heat. Organizers provided hydration stations—tents, drinks, and free Tide rides—to help fans stay cool.  WAVY
