- ➤ A Good Samaritan rescued a mother cat with her kittens caught in a storm, and Norfolk SPCA with local foster families helped them recover (one kitten died during care) while the surviving kittens will be up for adoption soon (an orphan two-day-old kitten named Panther was added to the family). - ➤ Workers at Norfolk Botanical Garden voted Wednesday to form a union with a vote of 43—23 and aim to secure higher wages and legally binding work agreements. They hope to gain more negotiating power as the nonprofit advances its Garden of Tomorrow expansion. 13 News Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Norfolk man was sentenced to 25 years for second-degree murder after fatally shooting a 38-year-old man who mistakenly knocked on his door on June 20th in the Ocean View area—defendant Leroy Frank King continued to deny guilt during his sentencing hearing. 13 News Now
- ➤ Norfolk and Virginia Beach police arrested 27-year-old Phillip J. Graham, a North Carolina resident, on July 22—charging him with forcible sodomy, robbery, abduction and firearm offenses after a sexual assault at the Double Tree at 1500 North Military Highway, a robbery on Christian Circle on July 20, and a sexual assault and robbery on Commerce Street on July 21 while urging additional victims to come forward. 13 News Now
- ➤ A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday night after he shot a woman in the hand near the CHKD Thrift Store (E. Little Creek Rd.) and she was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury while police said the teen now faces multiple charges (including malicious wounding and use of a firearm). 3 WTKR

- ➤ The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group worked with NATO allies in the Mediterranean and joined with the Italian warship ITS Spartaco Schergat on July 20 after moving through the Strait of Gibraltar with Spanish support—an early move in its plan to boost regional security. The Navy said the exercises showed America’s commitment to keeping the area ready and secure. 13 News Now
