BUSINESS NEWS

  • Norfolk Premium Outlets added 10 fast charging stalls for public use in the parking lot near the Old Navy entrance—two of which deliver dedicated 400 kW power—and all electric vehicles now have 24/7 access using simple payment options.  WAVY

CRIME NEWS

  • A 3-year-old was injured in an accidental shooting early Friday morning in Norfolk when the child shot their hand, and police charged 24-year-old Kirk M. Bond Jr.—who now faces charges of reckless handling of a firearm, allowing access to a firearm by a child, child neglect, and possession of a firearm by a felon—with detention in Norfolk City Jail.  WAVY
  • A 17-year-old teen—Jordan Alexander Hill—was fatally shot Friday on the 800 block of 35th Street in Park Place, and his family will hold a candlelight vigil Tuesday as police continue their investigation without releasing a suspect or motive.  WAVY
  • A woman was killed in a shooting on the 1600 block of E Brambleton Avenue early Monday as Norfolk police said officers were called around 5:00 a.m.—she was pronounced dead at the scene.  3 WTKR
  • On July 20th at around 9:00 p.m., Norfolk Police said two men suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash on Church Street and were taken to a hospital— the driver was detained near the scene and alcohol was not considered a factor.  City of Norfolk
  • On July 21 around 5:00 a.m., Norfolk officers responded to a parking violation at 1645 E. Brambleton Avenue and found a woman with life-threatening injuries in a car — she was pronounced dead at the scene while her identity is pending next-of-kin notification.  City of Norfolk

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Norfolk Department of Public Health reported that the first West Nile virus activity of the season was detected when one mosquito sample from the 1100 block of North Military Highway tested positive on July 18; the Division of Vector Control is now treating nearby standing water—fogging when weather permits—and increasing surveillance. Residents are urged to use insect repellent and remove standing water to reduce mosquito bites.  City of Norfolk

  • The City of Norfolk is offering free rides on The Tide and Elizabeth River Ferry for fans with tickets to Banana Ball games on July 24, July 25, and July 26—service starts at 2 p.m. before each game and continues two hours past its end with staff managing the lines at Harbor Park.  City of Norfolk
