  • Today at 10 a.m., Carnival Cruise will open its first-ever exclusive destination, Celebration Key, with a live ceremony—streamed on Facebook—and Carnival Sunshine will sail from Norfolk to offer locals a preview of its attractions.  WAVY

  • Norfolk Police are investigating a homicide after officers found a man dead on West 35th Street on Friday at 12 p.m.—the case remains active.  WAVY
  • Portsmouth man Camari Warren was found not guilty of all charges in the off-campus shooting death of NSU student Jahari George in 2023—witness accounts and digital evidence were presented while a key witness's credibility was challenged.  3 WTKR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Norfolk Festevents announced that The Travelin’ McCourys will headline Nashfest 757 — a free one-day festival at Town Point Park on Sept. 13 from noon to 10 p.m. — where visitors can enjoy Tennessee food, drinks and live music. The event brings a taste of Tennessee culture to Norfolk.  WAVY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local environmental groups in Norfolk are working to restore coastal wetlands that protect against floods and give wildlife a home. They plan to plant native grasses and build oyster reef structures—steps that are meant to avert the loss of up to 89% of tidal wetlands.  13 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill passed this week will cut $9 billion in federal funding from public broadcasting, forcing at least 80 stations to face budget cuts; Norfolk’s WHRO will lose $2 million and plans a fundraising campaign—steps taken as stations nationwide scramble to adjust their budgets. VPM and other broadcasters are considering cuts to local programming—moves that reflect the growing challenge of funding quality public media.  WHRO
  • The Department of Transportation was honored with the Hampton Roads District Locally Administered Projects Progress Award for managing VDOT-funded projects on time and within budget—showing measurable improvements for Norfolk residents, businesses and visitors.  City of Norfolk

HEALTH NEWS

  • CAN Community Health will open a new state-of-the-art clinic in Norfolk—expanding care with services such as HIV, Hepatitis C, STI testing, primary care, telehealth, dental care, pharmacy and behavioral health. The clinic will support local efforts to combat high HIV rates.  WAVY
