  • The 24th annual Norfolk Latino Music & Food Festival will take place at Town Point Park on July 19 from 2 to 11 p.m. and will feature live music by artists (DJ Nava, Grupo Ritmo Son, Kadencia, headliner Freily eL F) along with Latin food, dance lessons and family activities (free event).  13 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Lucas South, 38, pleaded guilty to grand larceny for stealing 88 special-ordered window security screens from an Oakleaf Forest community last month — he will be sentenced on August 1 after a junkyard employee identified him.  WAVY
  • Navari Taylor was sentenced to four years and two months in prison for firing shots into his ex-girlfriend’s Norfolk home on October 18th last year—he pleaded guilty on June 17th after police recovered the discarded gun, and no one was injured.  WAVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Norfolk School Board is considering demolishing Ghent School—one of 10 schools recommended for closure—to make room for a new football stadium and eight-lane track at Maury High. The proposal may add $11 million to the project’s nearly $230 million cost and will be voted on this week as closure plans are finalized by Aug 1.  3 WTKR

  • At the USS George H.W. Bush, culinary specialists cook 5,000 to 10,000 pounds of food daily to feed over 4,000 sailors, while other support staff help maintain smooth operations. Chaplains provide confidential, 24/7 counseling—ensuring the crew is cared for and ready for every challenge—by offering round-the-clock support.  WAVY
  • Norfolk’s NATO commands have grown and are planning new headquarters to house more workers and boost the alliance against threats from Russia. The Joint Force Command is expected to eventually reach 600 personnel and new funding from members will support the expansion — a key investment in our local defense.  WHRO
  • Drivers at Norfolk International Airport will see smoother traffic as crews begin a $21.7 million project this week to build a new four-way intersection east of the Norview Avenue bridge—adding lanes, new signals and better signs while preparing for a future car rental facility set to finish in winter 2026 to 2027.  13 News Now
