  • Percy Gordon, a first-year lifeguard at Ocean View Beach Park, spotted a woman swept out to sea by strong winds—using his surf rescue board, he brought her safely back to shore. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 2:20 a.m. today, fire crews in Norfolk responded to a blaze at D’ Estilo Barbershop on Sewells Point Road—located in a multi-unit strip mall where part of the roof collapsed—and had the fire under control just before 3 a.m. while a nearby business reported smoke damage.  WAVY
  • Fire crews responded to the burned D'Estilo Barbershop on Sewells Point Road early Friday morning around 5:30 a.m.—News 3 video shows the incident.  3 WTKR

CRIME NEWS

  • Detectives charged 23-year-old Shaiqui M. McKesson with second-degree murder and use of a firearm after a shooting in the 900 block of Bagnall Road on July 10 that left 22-year-old Erica J. Wright dead—she was taken to the hospital and pronounced deceased while McKesson is held without bond in Norfolk City Jail.  City of Norfolk
  • Police said 22-year-old Pittsburgh resident Erica J. Wright died soon after she was brought to a hospital following a shooting around 2:10 p.m. Thursday on the 900 block of Bagnall Road near Tidewater Drive and Virginia Beach Boulevard+ 23-year-old Shaiqui M. McKesson was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and firearm use during a felony.  13 News Now

  • Henry Attivor, a Master of Public Administration student at Old Dominion University, is an NEL intern with CivicLab who designs dashboards for the Grants Division and Civic Leagues and builds tools to check performance.
