Dozens of Norfolk kids are attending the free sheriff's summer camp today at Camp Apasus (operated by the Girl Scouts) where they take part in archery, canoeing, and fishing.

The camp (for kids ages 8–12) is fully booked and will run in one-week sessions from July 7–11 and July 14–18 with help from local partners.

On July 3, fire crews answered a call about a sailboat fire on the Elizabeth River and divers pulled a body from the water—officials will now have the Medical Examiner’s Office identify the victim and check the cause of death while ruling out foul play.

A man was sentenced to one year and six months in prison—four years and six months suspended—after pleading guilty to breaking into and damaging a Norfolk auto body shop on North Military Highway on April 3rd; his plea deal requires him to pay $1,000 and gives him the option to serve a shorter sentence by completing a drug treatment program, officials said.
