CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty to burglarizing a home in Bay View last summer and was sentenced on May 29 to one year in jail—four additional years are suspended and he cannot contact the victim. WAVY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Documents from WTKR News 3 show that Norfolk Public Schools are planned for closure, renovation, rebuild and repurposing over the next several years. Ten schools will be consolidated as part of a preliminary plan—this plan still needs a school board vote after meetings and a directive from Norfolk City Council in March. 3 WTKR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Beginning July 1, Norfolk will offer residents and visitors two hours of free parking in 14 downtown garages — after that, standard rates will apply with business validation discounts for longer stays. To fund the program, on-street meter fees in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas will increase by $0.50 per quarter hour — a change designed to boost access to downtown businesses. WAVY
- ➤ Starting July 1, Norfolk city garages will offer two hours of free parking to encourage support for downtown businesses. After the free period—previous rates will resume and businesses may offer a 50% discount for longer stays while short-term meter rates in Tier 1 and 2 areas will increase by $2 per hour or 50 cents every 15 minutes. 3 WTKR
