CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Portsmouth Police said a man was shot and killed on Dunedin Road Thursday evening when they answered a call about a shooting after neighbors heard several shots and a car speed away, and police said they are still investigating the case. WAVY
- ➤ The funeral service for seaman Angelina Resendiz will be held on June 27 in Brownsville, Texas at the Church of Latter-day Saints on Price Road with a viewing from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.—the service begins at 5:30 p.m. and a vigil to honor her and others reportedly lost to violence will start at 7:15 p.m. after she vanished from Naval Station Norfolk on May 29 and her body was later recovered behind an elementary school as a sailor now faces pretrial confinement. 3 WTKR
- ➤ Jeremiah Copeland has been identified as the Navy sailor in pretrial confinement in connection with seaman Angelina Resendiz’s death—a case her mother said is a betrayal of trust and duty. The government must now show evidence and arraign him within 120 days as investigators review records and other materials. WAVY
- ➤ Police in Norfolk responded at 2 a.m. to a shooting on Goochland Street where photos showed a heavy police presence and a gray sedan was being investigated—officials are still verifying if anyone was injured. WAVY
- ➤ Police reported a shooting on the 2100 block of Elm Avenue in Portsmouth at 5:18 p.m. on Wednesday that left one person dead and another injured — the investigation is still ongoing. 3 WTKR
