CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 29-year-old man was found guilty after forcing his way into a disabled woman's apartment on Oct. 6, 2024—he and an accomplice stole around $200 in cash and took her phone by using a neighbor's name to gain entry. WAVY
- ➤ Norfolk police charged 27-year-old Tyli N. Scott with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in connection with the June 16 homicide of Alexus L. Foreman on E Liberty Street—Scott was arrested on June 17 in Virginia Beach and a 4-year-old victim was found safe and returned to a guardian. City of Norfolk
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Virginia regulators will hold a hearing on June 24 to review a petition that seeks to mandate terrapin excluder devices on crab pots used within 150 yards of shore to protect diamondback terrapins from drowning. Commercial crabbers oppose the measure—arguing it may reduce crab catch and add costs even though the devices cost only about $1 to $2 each. WHRO

- ➤ City employees can buy a discounted HRT GoPass365 for $225 through a continued partnership with HRT & Downtown Norfolk Council. The pass is valid from July 1 to June 30 and is available at 208 E. - ➤ A Chesapeake woman filed a $5 million federal lawsuit against VitalCore Health Strategies, alleging that jail medical staff delayed her hospital transfer and misdiagnosed her emergency when she was eight months pregnant last June—she claims the delay on Aug.15 led to a seizure and permanent brain damage. Her attorney said the providers treated her symptoms as a drug overdose and failed to act promptly, resulting in serious complications. WAVY
