CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Norfolk Theatre Festival, presented by the Virginia Arts Festival, begins Sunday and runs through June, featuring five productions—ranging from a one-man show on mental health to a reimagined version of Frankenstein and an illusionist performance by Simon Coronel—and gives local audiences a mix of plays, musicals and magic. - ➤ The UniverSoul Circus returns to Norfolk from June 5 to June 22 for its 31st year with a brand-new tent—bringing a 'Rhythm of the World' theme and fresh performances for all ages. The big top is set next to the former Military Circle Mall at 880 N Military Highway, where acts like Dance Dimensions and the D.N.D. Dance Team perform today and over the weekend. WAVY
- ➤ Norfolk Harborfest is underway at Town Point Park as part of its 49th Annual celebration running from June 6 to June 8 and is free for all to attend. Today at 9:30 p.m. the fireworks display will light up the Elizabeth River from a floating platform—offering a spectacular scene for festival-goers. WAVY

- ➤ Dr. Claudine Kizart appeared on Another View with Barbara Hamm Lee and urged K-12 teachers to examine personal biases to promote equity in classrooms—she also noted the program paid tribute to the late Honorable Jerrauld C. Jones, who passed away on May 31. WHRO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The new Elizabeth River Ferry shelters—featuring full glass walls, solar-powered lighting and bold signage—were unveiled Thursday in Portsmouth and Norfolk to improve transit service. HRT said digital displays will be added later using funds from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation and local sources. WAVY
- ➤ Naval Weapons Station Yorktown and Dominion Energy signed an agreement on Friday to study alternative energy projects on base — including a small modular reactor and a solar farm. The study will last 6 to 12 months to help guide decisions that may power the Navy installation and surrounding communities. WHRO
