Derrick 'Izzy The DJ' Isabell leads The Isabell Foundation that provides scholarships, mentorship and fatherhood programs to Hampton Roads families.
The nonprofit's flagship event, Izzy's Community Day, returns first week of August - serving students and residents - to connect them with local resources.
Chesapeake Animal Services is overwhelmed with kittens and is asking locals to foster them to avoid euthanasia.
Since April 1 the shelter has taken in 224 kittens and placed 94 in foster care as space grows increasingly scarce.

Local artist Jim Masters will be featured on WHRO's Tiny Desk Concerts on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. on 89.5 WHRV.

Newport News Water Works declared a Stage 2 drought warning today and urged customers to conserve water before conditions worsen.
Irrigation experts say that installing pressure-regulated nozzles can cut water use by 30 percent — a timely fix to protect lawns and reduce utility bills.
🏛️ Government
Norfolk has opened bids to demolish most of Military Circle Mall while preserving key buildings including Ross Dress for Less and a Sentara facility (bids close on July 13).
The chosen contractor will have 15 months to finish work on the 74-acre site as the city plans its redevelopment.
Governor Abigail Spanberger signed new laws on Thursday to make it a crime to bring weapons into hospitals and emergency departments.
Sentara Health has already upgraded its security measures (including weapon detection systems) to help keep staff and patients safe.
