- ➤ Norfolk police responded to a barricade call on Ardmore Road on May 22nd at 11:15 a.m.—officers found a man in a mental health crisis and took him into custody before transporting him to a medical facility, and no injuries were reported. City of Norfolk
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Norfolk Botanical Garden was voted the best Butterfly House in the United States by USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. The Butterfly House began as a temporary exhibit in 2009 and now welcomes over 45,000 visitors each year while open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. City of Norfolk
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 5, the Elizabeth River Project lost $75,000 from NOAA’s Chesapeake Bay-Watershed Education and Training program, which helped fund conservation field trips for Portsmouth 6th graders — the group said it will work with schools and universities and seek community support to keep its programs running. 13 News Now
- ➤ NOAA said that between June 1 and November 30, 13 to 19 named tropical storms will form—6 to 10 will become hurricanes and 3 to 5 will turn into major storms. Officials warned inland communities to prepare for severe weather after Hurricane Helene caused heavy flooding last year. WHRO
