- ➤ Norfolk detectives are asking the public for help to identify a man wanted in connection with two commercial burglaries, one at Papa Joes Smoke Shop on E Little Creek Road at 1:20 a.m. on May 20th and the other at a business on Chesapeake Boulevard at 2:40 a.m. on May 17th — both incidents involved missing items. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Horizons Hampton Roads faces a funding crisis after a two-year $250,000 EPA grant was terminated—forcing the nonprofit to scramble for emergency funds ahead of its summer academic program. The program, set to begin on June 25, serves 400 children from Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach—and may see parts cut if additional funding is not secured. 3 WTKR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Naval Station Norfolk is set to be the east coast home for the Navy’s new drone squadron that will fly MQ-25A Stingray drones for refueling carrier aircraft—officials are seeking public comment on a draft environmental report through June 7 while base modifications to welcome the squadron will begin in 2026 with drones arriving no sooner than 2031. - ➤ The MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk will open on Memorial Day, May 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to let visitors honor fallen service members by placing a poppy on a memorial wreath and receiving a complimentary flower and flag arrangement (free admission) while supplies last (subject to availability).
