ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new report card from William and Mary’s Batten School and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science shows Norfolk had the highest sea level rise rate on the East Coast at 5.6 millimeters per year based on 55 years of tide gauge data. The report warns that rising seas will add about a foot and a half to tidal floods by 2050 — urging local leaders to plan for future challenges.  WAVY

HEALTH NEWS

  • In April, Virginia reported its first measles case in a young child — after officials found nearly half of kindergarten classes did not meet the 95% vaccination rate needed for herd immunity.
