- ➤ Norfolk Animal Care Center will host the Shelter Spring Fling at Afterglow Brewing on May 17 from noon to 4 p.m.—nearly a dozen local shelters and rescues will take part by showcasing adoptable pets, volunteer options, and live music with food for purchase. City of Norfolk
- ➤ Northside Indoor Pool will be closed May 19—24 for maintenance—patrons may use Southside Aquatic Center or Huntersville Indoor Pool during the closure and it will reopen May 27. City of Norfolk
- ➤ Norfolk Parks & Recreation and Norfolk Festevents will host the free Motown & Mingle event at Five Points Park on May 23 from 6 to 9 p.m., where the TFC Band will play classic Motown hits while food trucks, games, and activities offer fun for families. City of Norfolk
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Norfolk General District Court set bond at $2500 for 27-year-old Da’Kwon Crawley, who climbed airport fencing on March 26—causing a 21-minute shutdown—and he must continue treatment with the Norfolk Community Services Board while staying off the airport until his trial on July 8. WAVY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Summer Reading Program for adults will begin on June 7th and run until August 2, offering weekly prize drawings for the minutes logged on Beanstack. Participants will log their reading time to win prizes — including games, kits, and gadgets — with a grand prize drawing for a telescope, remote-controlled moon lamp and stargazer's atlas.
