The Norfolk-based USS Truxtun joined USS Mason and USS Rafael Peralta in the Persian Gulf to safeguard commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz as part of Project Freedom.
It departed Norfolk on Feb. 3 after completing extensive training.
Norfolk-based USS Truxtun and another destroyer passed through the Strait of Hormuz today after facing coordinated missile, drone, and boat attacks from Iran, with military air support helping to deter the threat.
U.S. defense officials said the vessels safely entered the Persian Gulf.
