- ➤ Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads is hosting Women Build Weeks in Norfolk from April 20 through May 1, where volunteers build a new home for local grandmother Leola Wiggins (Berkley) on Walker Avenue. The build gives Wiggins a chance for stable, affordable housing as volunteers work on schedule. 13 News Now
- ➤ Local boat safety officials advise checking equipment such as life jackets + VHF radios and sharing a float plan before leaving the dock, as changing weather and crowded inlets increase risks on the water. 13 News Now

- ➤ South African actor Zama Magudulela stars as Rafiki in The Lion King at Chrysler Hall from April 30 to May 17—she performs her renowned routine in multiple languages and brings personal inspiration to a show returning to Norfolk after 2018. WHRO
- ➤ A new memorial honors the first enslaved Africans at Fort Monroe’s African Landing Memorial Plaza, now open to the public. Local leaders and community members gathered to dedicate the space and will install statues later this summer — a long-awaited recognition of history. 13 News Now
- ➤ The third-annual Cousinz Festival is set to take place on Sept. 5 on the Norfolk Scope Grounds — it will feature artists T.I., Keyshia Cole and The-Dream. Pre-sale tickets will be available Friday at noon with general sales starting May 1 at 10 a.m. 3 WTKR
- ➤ Barbara Hamm Lee, host of Another View, received the Lenora Mathews Lifetime Achievement Award from Volunteer Hampton Roads on April 24. She earned the recognition for her longstanding work in journalism and DEI programming. WHRO

- ➤ The American Lung Association's new report shows that Norfolk and other Hampton Roads areas earned a B grade since only a few days exceeded federal pollution limits.
