- ➤ A jury convicted Bryston A. Davis of conspiring to commit second degree murder— after his co-defendant Leon M. Williams pleaded guilty for a 2023 shooting murder. City of Norfolk
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The MacArthur Memorial Center in Norfolk will host Holocaust survivor Dr. Roger Loria on May 8 at 7 p.m. to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory in Europe, where he will share his survival story (doors open at 6:15 p.m.) (registration is required). WAVY
- ➤ Norfolk’s 2nd annual Cousinz Festival will be held at Norfolk Scope on Aug. 30, featuring headliners Jeezy, T-Pain, and Lil Kim with Jeezy set to perform tracks from his TM 101 album—local organizers have also scheduled a community panel and a presale event at The Waterside District on Friday. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Norfolk State University broke ground on its new $118M Science Building on April 18 in partnership with Work Program Architects, SmithGroup, and S.B. Ballard Construction—this 131,376-square-foot facility, replacing the Roy A. Woods Science Building, will house modern labs, classrooms, a planetarium, and more with completion scheduled for Fall 2027. Hampton Roads Messenger
- ➤ Old Dominion University will break ground on a new $184-million biological-sciences building on Monday, April 28, with state-of-the-art laboratories, a 120-seat lecture hall, classrooms, and core facilities—construction will start in May and the building is expected to open to students and faculty in spring 2028. - ➤ After a recent inspection, the city replaced the Tait Terrace crossing east of Ingleside Road yesterday—closing traffic for 2-3 hours—and will repair the East Little Creek Road crossing between Granby Street and Interstate 64 today from 9 a.m. to noon as required by federal rules. 13 News Now
