- ➤ Jazz legend Wynton Marsalis will perform today at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk—he and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will follow a three-day residency that saw them work with jazz bands from historically Black colleges including Norfolk State University. Daily Press
- ➤ The Norfolk Arts Commission is accepting grant applications for Fiscal Year 2026 from nonprofit arts and cultural organizations serving Norfolk residents that do not receive other City funding—eligible groups must maintain an active lay board and meet federal non-discrimination and accessibility standards. Applications for one of three grant categories are due April 20th at 11:59 p.m. EDT. City of Norfolk

- ➤ VDOT advises those traveling to Virginia Beach to avoid the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel by taking the I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as many highway work zones will be paused from noon Friday, April 18 until noon Tuesday, April 22—though some semi-permanent work zones will remain active. 13 News Now
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Crews began work on Phase 3 of the St. Paul’s Transformation Project on Thursday as the city turns the old Tidewater Gardens site into Kinship at Kindred—an $85M mixed-income housing project with 191 units, including 73 for former residents. City officials said the project will add amenities and improve access to jobs, schools and services across Norfolk. WAVY

- ➤ Norfolk State junior Brooklyn Robinson was named Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 100m hurdles in 13.33 seconds, the 100m dash in 11.59 seconds and a long jump of 5.72 meters at the NSU Invitational — Spartan senior Leslie Young earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors by taking first in the hammer throw at 52.30 meters and the javelin at 39.37 meters while placing second in the discus. - ➤ Norfolk Academy graduate Evan Beck, a Virginia Beach native known for his talent and integrity, will tee off at the Masters this week. His high school coach recalled Beck once admitted to a penalty stroke for moving his ball in the woods, a moment that showed his strong sportsmanship. 13 News Now
