- ➤ Virginia State Police said an ambulance trying to bypass a stopped tractor-trailer on Tuesday hit it and flipped over, injuring three people who were taken to hospitals—while the truck driver was not injured. 3 WTKR
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Jasmine Ward, a former Sentara employee, sued the health system for underpay after it deducted 30 minutes from her timecard as a meal break even when she did not take one—Ward claimed the auto-deduction and rounding policies cost her thousands and violated labor laws, and Sentara is reviewing the lawsuit. 13 News Now

- ➤ At 7:25 p.m. on April 8, detectives responded to a shooting report on the 1800 block of Berkley Avenue Ext. and found Devante L. Wilson (32) suffering life-threatening injuries who later died at the hospital as investigators continue to probe the homicide. City of Norfolk
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Nauticus will celebrate Battleship Wisconsin turning 81 on Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — the event will offer tours, hands-on workshops, and a new NCIS room that gives families a first look at an upcoming Turret Tour. City of Norfolk
- ➤ The Virginia Department of Historic Resources announced two new highway markers will soon be installed at local Black history landmarks in Newport News and Norfolk. The Newport marker will explain Marcus Garvey’s role in founding the UNIA while the Norfolk marker will highlight the history of the Attucks Theatre — installation may take up to six months as the cities cover each marker’s $3,000 manufacturing cost. 13 News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A recent report by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America ranked Virginia Beach as the 11th toughest area in the nation for pollen allergies. An expert from Old Dominion University explained that the region’s warm, moist climate — combined with urban pollution and a mix of northern and southern plants — leads to longer pollen seasons and heightened allergic reactions. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City crews pressure washed Norfolk Scope in late March to remove dust and grime from the 53-year-old building ahead of planned renovations and upgrades at Chrysler Hall. The city will invest $87 million (with $1.5 million from this fiscal year) to begin Chrysler Hall repairs in late 2026 before addressing Scope improvements to boost efficiency. Daily Press
