- ➤ Caroline Wetherington, a 7th grader at Norfolk Academy, baked homemade dog treats during the pandemic to support the Virginia Beach SPCA—her Caroline’s Barkery project raised over $6,100 to buy supplies for shelter animals. WAVY
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Three people were injured in a fiery car crash on Granby Street over the weekend when an SUV overturned, hit parked cars and caught fire—two suffered serious injuries and one had minor injuries—and Norfolk resident Kai Thomas used his training to pull victims from the burning car. WAVY
- ➤ Police investigated a serious motorcycle crash on the 5800 block of Poplar Hall Avenue on April 7 at 10:40 a.m.—they found David D. Steinruck, 52, with life-threatening injuries who later died at the hospital while the investigation continues. City of Norfolk
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Norfolk detectives arrested Ty-Riq Q. Anderson-Gadsden (26) on April 6th in Suffolk after linking him to the November 4th shooting on Hanson Avenue in which James E. Fortson Jr. (66) died from a gunshot wound; he is charged with second-degree murder and firearm use and is held without bond in Norfolk City Jail. City of Norfolk

- ➤ Residents may review and comment on the City of Norfolk’s FY 2026 proposed budget using online resources until April 18 and by attending a public hearing tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Granby High School—this is the only hearing set solely for resident input on the budget. City of Norfolk
