  • Chrysler Hall in Norfolk will host a Sound of Music sing-along on Sunday, April 6 with pre-show activities starting at 2 p.m.—a costume contest at 2:30 p.m. and the film at 3 p.m.—while guests will enjoy trivia and receive complimentary tote bags.  WAVY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report from the Consumer Federation of America found that homeowners insurance rates increased in 95% of US zip codes with Virginia premiums rising 31% from 2021 to 2024. Local homeowners are urged to compare rates and make their homes more weather-resistant to help avoid underinsurance — a change that may affect property values and rebuilding costs.  3 WTKR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado State University researchers released a forecast that predicts an above-average Atlantic hurricane season starting June 1 with 17 named storms—nine hurricanes and four major hurricanes—that could impact the continental U.S. and the Caribbean; residents are reminded to begin preparing as conditions change.  WAVY

  • Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Alexander gave the State of the City address Friday afternoon from noon to 2 p.m. at Hilton Norfolk The Main in Selden Market—he reviewed last year's accomplishments, addressed challenges, and outlined future plans while Brett Hall provided updates.  WAVY

  • Norfolk State named Jermaine Woods as the new head coach of its women’s basketball team after Larry Vickers left for Auburn last month—Woods, an All-American at Christopher Newport and former Coppin State coach, will lead a revamped squad after several key players exited.  The Virginian-Pilot
