CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, Suffolk police arrested a man for stealing over $6,000 in merchandise from Lowe’s stores in Hampton Roads—more than $2,000 of the stolen goods was recovered from his residence and he now faces felony larceny charges with additional charges pending. WAVY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Norfolk Public Library is hosting Children's Book Week for students in grades 2 to 6 and inviting entries that answer what book everyone should read and why. All entries (with student, school, and parent details) are due by May 10, and the winner will be notified on May 12 with a set of three Newberry Award winning books. City of Norfolk
- ➤ The Norfolk School Board met Wednesday to work on a plan to close 10 schools by Aug 1 after City Council ordered cost cuts due to spending on a $200 million project at Maury High School. The board said more details will be shared at the April 23 meeting and some local residents worry the fast timeline may hurt teachers and students (a retired teacher expressed surprise). WAVY
