ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A person died when a fire broke out at a Norfolk home in the 900 block of Avenue I on Monday, and fire crews arrived at 7:10 a.m., had the blaze under control by 8 a.m. with no other injuries reported—officials are investigating the cause.  3 WTKR
  • A house fire on the 900 block of Avenue I on Monday morning killed one person when Norfolk Fire-Rescue arrived at 7:10 a.m.—fire crews controlled the blaze shortly after 8 a.m. and are investigating the cause.  Daily Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Virginia State Police issued a critically missing adult alert on behalf of Old Dominion University Police for an 18 year old man last seen on Bluestone Avenue in Norfolk at 11:55 p.m. on March 30—he was possibly traveling in a gray 2006 Toyota 4Runner with Virginia plates TVE1156 in southwestern Virginia.  WAVY
  • Virginia State Police and ODU police are searching for 18-year-old Malik Barekzi, who was last seen on March 30 near Bluestone Avenue in Norfolk at 11:56 p.m. — he is a white male described as 5'11", 140 lbs with brown hair and brown eyes and a shaved head, and he may be in a gray 2006 Toyota 4Runner.  13 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nauticus and the Regional Maritime Training System will host a maritime careers festival on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Nauticus. The event will feature interactive exhibits, live demonstrations and networking opportunities for students, job seekers and families—advance tickets cost $1 when purchased ahead and $5 at the door.  City of Norfolk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a wet and snowy winter, potholes are forming on Norfolk streets as spring arrives and the city has designated April as Pothole Month to repair these hazards. Norfolk’s dedicated team is ready to start repairs today—using an on-site asphalt plant to quickly patch roads as residents report problems.  City of Norfolk

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, four non-district girls soccer games are set among ranked teams—Western Branch visits Ocean Lakes, Great Bridge heads to Princess Anne, Grassfield plays First Colonial, and Kellam faces Jamestown at Wanner Stadium. These games could shift the Top 15 rankings after Ocean Lakes moved into the ranking with a 4-3 win over Norfolk Academy in its last match.  Daily Press
