- ➤ Norfolk Animal Care Center and Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center are hosting a Slam Dunk Adoption Special through April 2 with puppies and adult dogs offered at $35 — senior dog fees waived. Adoption hours run from 1:30 to 6 p.m. every day except Wednesdays — the event is held at 5585 Sabre Road. The Virginian-Pilot
- ➤ Women from the Red Cross are making strides in emergency and disaster work as they use strong empathy to help people in crisis. Lisa Mike and Hannah Sutcliffe said women work long hours in hazardous conditions to support recovery efforts. WAVY
- ➤ On March 29th, protestors gathered in front of a Tesla dealership on North Military Highway as part of the Tesla Takedown Global Day of Action aimed at Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk, with organizer Rebecca Head (in her third protest) saying federal job cuts and changes to Veterans Affairs are hurting the local community. - ➤ Admiral Daryl Caudle showed a sneak peek at how the Navy trains to survive a nuclear attack on WAVY-TV 10 (a segment aired this month) to explain the service's plans for worst-case scenarios. WAVY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Norfolk Tides lost 9-3 to Durham at Harbor Park as six fielding errors and a fourth inning home run by Samuel Basallo led to the defeat—hampering their season start. The series will conclude today at 1:05 p.m.—and the team will look to improve its play. The Virginian-Pilot
- ➤ At the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship in Annapolis, William & Mary placed fourth when Luke Tully finished fourth overall and freshman Connor Barrow won the vault with a score of 14.25 — earning him All-America honors. In college softball and baseball, Norfolk State swept Delaware State in a doubleheader in Dover, Stony Brook beat Hampton 10-0, and Virginia Wesleyan swept Guilford in Greensboro with standout team efforts.
