ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Norfolk fire marshals began investigating a small apartment fire that occurred early Friday morning in the 800 block of Goff Street near 1:48 a.m.—firefighters brought the fire under control by 2:21 a.m. with no injuries or displaced residents.  13 News Now

  • Beach Kabob House is a family-run restaurant located in Virginia Beach where the Miran family serves kabobs, naan and traditional Afghan dishes—realizing co-owner Naser Miran’s long-time dream. The eatery is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.—and it brings authentic Afghan flavors rooted in family heritage to the local community.  13 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Keith Bryant was declared not guilty on Friday in his trial for the 2019 second degree murder of William & Mary football player Nate Evans — prosecutors said Kri’Shawn Beamon still faces trial for the shooting.  13 News Now

  • Norfolk native singer-songwriter Roberta Lea performed her original music at the WHRV studio on March 21—where she discussed her work with the Black Opry Tour—and she has toured nationally with Black Opry stars and aims to share African American history in country music.  WHRO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norfolk’s Office of Resilience will host its third Community Corner: A Conversation on Coastal Resilience on March 27 at the Chrysler Museum of Art (3:30 p.m.–6 p.m.) to let residents learn how the City will reduce flooding risk along West Ghent to Harbor Park. Residents can ask questions about Phase 1 of the CSRM Project, and registration is requested (advance registration required).  City of Norfolk

SPORTS NEWS

  • Norfolk State's women basketball team won 81-55 over South Carolina State and built a 19-game win streak to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The 13th-seeded Spartans will face No. 4 seed Maryland today in College Park—they aim to capture their next road win.  Daily Press
  • Toano’s Isabella Strumke, an 11-year-old, broke the state 8K record for girls ages 10-14 by finishing in 29:58 on March 15 at a flat course along the Virginia Beach oceanfront—she broke a record set 40 years ago. She also won her third straight state wrestling title that week, showing her strong skills in both sports.  The Virginian-Pilot
  • The Kellam boys lacrosse team became the first from Hampton Roads to reach a Virginia High School League championship as they finished 18-2 last season with a 9-4 win over Patrick Henry before falling 17-5 to Riverside.
