  • After four years running a food truck, Nathan Ingram opened Sour Street Pizza in East Ocean View in January. The restaurant (born from a COVID sourdough experiment) uses a two-day fermentation process and premium ingredients (like organic flour and San Marzano tomatoes) to create its pizzas.  Daily Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Def Leppard will perform at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach at 8 p.m. on Aug. 31. Citibank presale tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday — general admission tickets start at 10 a.m. Friday.  The Virginian-Pilot
  • General MacArthur’s famous hat at the MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk won the People’s Choice Award and received $1,000 from the Virginia Association of Museums for conservation work—officials plan to launch a fundraiser soon to secure extra funds.  WHRO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia’s superintendent of public instruction Lisa Coons resigned Friday amid federal education funding changes, and school leaders voiced concerns about the future of public instruction. Gov. Youngkin has named Chief Deputy Secretary Emily Anne Gullickson as acting superintendent (a temporary role meant to ensure a smooth transition) to lead the department.  The Virginian-Pilot

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer and NAS Oceana commanding officer Capt. Josh Appazzeto said the 2025 airshow will celebrate 250 years of America's Navy with jet demos and a historic focus. The event will run from September 20 through 21 and include teams such as the Blue Angels, Rhino demo team, F-22 Raptor demo, and F-35C Lightning demo.  3 WTKR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coaches gave team previews for 2025 high school baseball and listed district predictions and key player highlights. The preview—based on coach input—covers teams in Bay Rivers, Beach, Eastern, Peninsula and Southeastern districts.  The Virginian-Pilot
  • Kellam won its first state title since 2005 — beating First Colonial 4-2 in penalty kicks after a scoreless tie — and finished the season 19–1–1, with ten 757 teams qualifying for the state tournaments but only Kellam returning with a trophy.  The Virginian-Pilot
