Experts warn gardeners that invasive plants in Hampton Roads and across Virginia hurt local plants and animals by outgrowing native species—Beach Vitex, for example, can harm sea turtle nesting.
The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation said the state is home to 90 invasive species that cost about $1 billion each year for removal.
