  • Nelly's Brine and Grine will open at the former Sanctuary at The Railyard (next to Afterglow Brewing) at Lambert's Point by June. The owners, who also operate The Fishin’ Pig and Fr8 House Coffee, are renovating a nearby building to add a family-friendly bar.  3 WTKR
  • Local business owners at the Railyard are uniting after Lidl abandoned plans to build a store, and have started cross-promotional events to support each other; Just Birdies remains busy and developers say grocers may soon show interest in the empty lot (Nelly's Brine and Grine will open nearby by June).  3 WTKR

  • WHRV will air a belated Valentines music program on Sunday night starting at 7 when Pickin begins and then The Acoustic Highway starts at 9. The broadcast will feature classic selections from Ralph Stanley along with local artists + regional acts.  WHRO

  • A local florist, Jordan Lee (at Wisps of Willow in Virginia Beach) said spending remains steady today despite rising inflation driving up flower, vase, and delivery costs, with economists noting households in Hampton Roads are adjusting gift choices amid higher everyday prices.  13 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia lawmakers proposed board reforms for public universities that would extend board terms to six years, change appointment processes, and let colleges hire independent legal counsel.   • Portsmouth will redevelop its 6-acre waterfront site Crawford Bay with housing, office space, and retail after community feedback at the Bide-A-Wee pavilion on Feb. 13. Developer solicitations start in early March with a shortlist by May — city leaders aim to boost the local economy.  WHRO

  • The Virginia Department of Health said that loss of ACA tax credits and drug rebates will force cuts in Ryan White clinic funding and insurance for 4,500 HIV patients. Officials plan to use lower-tier ACA plans for 2026—risking longer wait times and reduced services.  WHRO
