ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews put out a kitchen fire in a second-floor apartment on Johnston Road on Thursday night at about 8:16 p.m.+ the incident displaced eight residents and resulted in water damage in three apartments and fire damage in one. 3 WTKR

- ➤ WHRV’s Another View with Barbara Hamm Lee reviewed its most-listened episodes from 2025 featuring Norfolk State’s Eric Claville — a key local voice — and experts on politics, healthcare and Black hair care. The program also spotlighted a Juneteenth celebration and local literary success. WHRO
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Drivers reported that toll hikes on Jan. 1 for Midtown & Downtown tunnels and the Jordan Bridge increased rates from $3.45 to $3.70 for E-ZPass users, with pay-by-plate drivers incurring extra fees. Some say higher tolls affect their ability to work and travel, with relief available only for tunnels. 13 News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Newport News Shipbuilding completed the keel laying for the future USS Barb, a Virginia-class attack submarine, in December 2025. The project will continue over several years as industry & Navy partners work together at the shipyard. 3 WTKR
- ➤ On Jan. 1, E-ZPass users crossing Jordan Bridge and nearby Downtown and Midtown tunnels in Hampton Roads saw tolls rise to $3.70 for two-axle vehicles — higher rates apply for additional axles and pay-by-mail users, while a toll relief program is available for tunnel drivers with qualifying incomes. 3 WTKR
- ➤ New toll rates took effect Jan. 1 for Elizabeth River Tunnels and South Norfolk Jordan Bridge. Eligible residents may receive discounts through a Toll Relief Program and off-peak rates applied on weekends and select holidays. 13 News Now
